Vital Tests to Diagnose Diabetes
To find out if you have type 2 diabetes, you usually go through the following 2 steps:
- See your physician for your symptoms.
- Your physician will ask you to get your urine test done to detect the presence of glucose or ketone bodies and the blood test is done to check the blood sugar levels and confirm diabetes.
Urine test for diabetes
Urine tests are often done to diagnose type1 diabetes by detecting ketone bodies in the urine. The body produces ketone bodies when fat tissue is used for energy instead of blood sugar. Laboratories test urine for these ketone bodies. Large amounts of ketone bodies in the urine indicate that your body is not making enough insulin and help in the diagnosis of diabetes.
Blood test for diabetes
In its early stages, diabetes may or may not cause many symptoms and the best way to diagnose diabetes at an early stage is through a blood test.
