Aloo -Paneer Pops - A good yummy snack for kids

A yummy, crunchy snack for birthday parties, high-tea or when you have any special guests coming home for an evening. Filled with carbohydrates from the potato, some proteins from the paneer and of course fat ‘coz its deep fried. I tried this out for my son’s Birthday party and the kids (and the adults) just loved it. Try it out. Here’s the recipe
- Potato (boiled & mashed) – 2 no.
- Onion (chopped finely) – 1 small
- Coriander leaves (chopped) – 4 twigs
- Paneer (grated) – 50 g
- Raisins – a handful
- Corn flakes (crushed) – 1 cup
- Maida – 3 tsp
- Black pepper powder – ½ tsp
- Garam masala powder – ½ tsp
- Red chilli powder – ½ tsp or as required
- Salt – to taste
- Oil- for frying
- Sauté onion in a pan till it pinkish in color, till the raw smell is gone.
- Soak the raisins in warm water till it puffs up and drain well.
- Now mix potato, sautéed onion, grated paneer, soaked raisins, chopped coriander leaves, garam masala, chilli powder and salt. Mix well and keep aside.
- Make a thin a batter of maida. Add salt and black pepper powder.
- Now make small cylindrical pops (2 inch long and 1 inch thick) of the potato mixture.
- Dip them in the maida batter and roll them on the crushed cornflakes one by one.
- Keep it in the refrigerator for 1 hour or more.
- Heat oil for frying in a pan and deep fry the pops on a medium flame till the outer crust is golden brown.
- Serve hot with tomato ketchup or green chutney.
Kids can definitely enjoy this once in a while, but not too often if they are overweight. If you an adult and if you are overweight, then you better stay away from this ‘coz it is deep fried. Even if you have it let that be in limits.
