Hyperemesis Gravidarum is a complication of pregnancy and it can be characterized by severe dehydration which can cause a deleterious effect on the health of the mother and incapacitates in her day to day life activities. It is more common in the first pregnancy and during the first trimester of pregnancy.

  • Obesity
  • Multiple pregnancies
  • Primigravidae
  • The first trimester of pregnancy

Symptoms:

  • Weight loss
  • Dehydration
  • Dizziness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Aversion from food
  • Nausea
  • Low blood pressure
  • Anxiety

Following preventive measures can help to curb the harmful effects of hyperemesis:

  • Maintain ideal body weight
  • Do yoga and meditation
  • Get enough rest
  • Avoid stress
  • Eat a small meal every 2 hour
  • Give preference to bland food over spicy food
  • Snack before going to sleep at night
  • Go  carbohydrate and protein-rich diet
  • Avoid caffeinated drink
  • Avoid fried and fatty food
  • Stay hydrated
  • Wear loose clothing
  • Visit the doctor regularly.
