The Indian Gooseberry

The Indian Gooseberry, known as amla in Hindi, has been used extensively in traditional medicine. Nutritionally rich in vitamin C, it's used mainly in pickled form in Indian homes.

Gooseberry is believed to contain antimicrobial properties.  Alternate therapy experts say that this berry is useful to relieve bronchitis and asthma.  It is believed to promote longevity, strengthen the heart and stimulate hair growth.  It's high vitamin C content, along with polyphenols, can be useful antioxidants to protect against many diseases.  It may also work as an anti-aging food.

Use gooseberry in your meals when it's in season.
