First of all, Wish all of you a very happy and healthy Diwali...!! We all look forward to festivals, especially Diwali, as it brings lots of fun, yummy food, firecrackers, lots of shopping, meeting our loved ones, and much more!
If you follow certain things strictly, you don't need to think much about how to get back to your healthy self after Diwali.
Here are a few simple ways to enjoy Diwali without a feeling of guilt.
- Hydrate Yourself- Drink 2 extra glasses of water on all the festival days without fail.
- Include salads- Try to chip in 2 bowls of raw salad throughout the day (anytime you want).
- Go high on fiber- Make sure you include fresh vegetables and fruit in your diet as fiber helps in reducing cholesterol and constipation, maintains weight, and keeps you away from eating junk.
- Choose healthy cooking methods - Go for baked & steamed snacks instead of fried ones.
- Say NO to store-bought sweets- Avoid buying sweets from the market during Diwali. Homemade is healthy so savor homemade sweets of your choice, but not more than 1 to 2 small pieces. Replace artificial sweeteners like sugar, and aspartame with natural sugar like maple syrup, coconut sugar, dates, and figs.
- Go for healthy snack Preparations-Prepare nutritious varieties of snacks adding fresh fruits and vegetables in them like palak chakli, tomato sev, roasted chickpea, baked vegetable fritters, fruit desserts, etc.
- Choose pure and healthy Fats-Use pure ghee instead of Vanaspati, and remember do not overuse them...!
- Be wise about your portion size- It’s important to watch the amount of food you eat to make sure you aren’t eating too much. Always use smaller dishes at meals. Serve food in the right portion amounts. Avoid going back for a second serve.
- Stay active- Find out ways to burn the calories that you consume throughout the day. Walk as much as possible; take the stairs instead of the elevators and keep yourself active.
- Limit Your Alcohol Intake- Excessive alcohol not only causes dehydration but also gives you a hangover, and can be life-threatening. So, be mindful while choosing your drinks, and most importantly, be a responsible citizen by avoiding drunk driving this Diwali.
Follow these tips and enjoy the festival of lights with your loved ones!
Stay healthy... Stay safe!!
